How Does a Fashion Buyer Spend a Workday? | eHow.com

This is an article I thought I’d share explaining what a fashion buyer does on a day to day basis. How Does a Fashion Buyer Spend a Workday? | eHow.com.

In the article Maggie Hira explains beautifully in detail of the typical work load. Frequenting showrooms, attending meetings with designers and keeping up with the latest trends. The career is business oriented mixed with fashion industry.

This is my DREAM job. Something that I can taste. Maybe this will be an inspirational read  if you want to work in the fashion industry, you know it’s your passion, but you just don’t know exactly what you want to do yet.

Sounds like a dream career come true!

  1. The only way I’d ever survive in the fashion world is as a designer. I never follow trends and have no interest in them, so as much fun as it would be to work as a fashion buyer, I know I’d be fired in an instant!

    • I appreciate the honesty! Just food for thought: there are so many different retail shops, boutiques, stores etc … do you think that if you found one you felt had an awesome style, you’d be able to buy for them?

      • Yeah I could probably do that, but it would have to be a very particular niche that matched my own style. I don’t think I would ever be willing to sell something I wouldn’t personally wear. In my mind, that’s like intentionally giving someone else bad advice.

      • I understand that. I just love so many different garments, I guess that’s why I’d love such a profession!

if this is your dream job, then how do we get you there?

    • I’ve read things such as getting into retail and learning the ends and out while obtaining your BA or MD in fashion merchandising. I’m working on this because being in the fashion industry is all I can think of doing with my life.
